Jim Gaffigan: White trash foodie

Noone does food comedy like Jim Gaffigan. It is a key ingredient - no pun intended - to his notoriously clean stand up routines when he is on the road.

Gaffigan grew up in the food cultural void of Indiana, where staples are meat and potatoes. The state is landlocked, apart from one tiny northwest corner that sits on one of Great Lakes. Hence his distate for seafood. Like mussels. He’s said, “What is the recipe of mussels? That’s just like sea bugs and butter, right? Why don’t you just have the butter?”

What a waste that Gaffigan now lives in New York City - a food mecca! He and his wife have four children, who like children everywhere, are addicted to pizza. So they eat it a lot…and often. “Pizza is a necessity. It’s like oxygen to children. It’s easy to get delivered. It’s easy to clean up. You appear as a hero as a parent, because they associate it with a party.” But Gaffigan is not a fan of this ubiquitous food, noting, “… pizza is just all right. That’s kind of like saying you’re against the military — saying you’re against pizza — but I’m just so sick of it.”
